George Russell snatched pole position for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix with his strong weekend in Spain continuing in qualifying.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
It comes following a brutal run of luck in recent rounds. The Mercedes driver immediately proclaimed himself “back in the groove” of the F1 season.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli went second and third quickest in Spain, ahead of Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, who rounded out the top five.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Charles Leclerc failed to capitalise on promising pace from Ferrari, bringing out a red flag in Q3 after a bizarre crash at the exit of Turn 4, pausing the clock with 8:30 to go in the final part of the grid-setting session.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
The Mon\u00e9gasque driver, who was fastest in Q2, appeared to be at fault. Having turned in earlier than the lap before, taking a shallower line, he got wide on the corner exit and opted to power through the misjudgement whilst sliding on the dirtier side of the track.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
In trying to counteract and steer into the skid, he suffered a sudden snap, forcing his SF-26 straight on and into the barriers.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
The only shock of Q1 came in the form of Lance Stroll outqualifying Fernando Alonso for the first time since the 2024 British Grand Prix, in doing so ending a 42-round streak.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Worryingly for the Silverstone-based squad, the pair locked out the final row on the grid and were a second adrift of the Cadillacs ahead.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
