But while hitting outside a day or two ago and running the bases off of that, he had a flareup.

“I think he just felt a little something in his last one,” Boone said.

The saving grace for the Yankees is that in Stanton’s absence, they have given Paul Goldschmidt near-everyday at-bats at first base or DH and the veteran has delivered, like he did on Saturday with a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning. But the injuries have continued to pile up in the meantime, with Trent Grisham joining the IL on Saturday with a hamstring strain that put him on the shelf alongside Stanton, Aaron Judge, Austin Wells and Max Fried.

Giancarlo Stanton suffered a setback. Robert Sabo for NY Post

Thanks in part to the defense behind him, Cam Schlittler was an escape artist on Saturday, stranding seven runners over seven innings of one-run ball on a day when he did not have his best command. While lowering his ERA to 1.82, Schlittler walked a season-high four batters, including two on eight straight balls in the fifth inning.

But he got some key double plays and struck out seven while throwing 101 pitches.

 Yankees Merch Shop

New York Post receives revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and when you make a purchase.

“Just trying to feel the body out,” Schlittler said. “It’s tough. It’s not something I’ve been able to really learn in the minors. You see some of the great guys up here, they do that really well, they can feel out their bodies. Something I’m trying to work on and feel it out when I’m out there and make adjustments when I need to.”

Jazz Chisholm Jr. provided some of the strong defense for Schlittler, including a diving catch to his right with runners on second and third in the fourth inning. That helped make up for his brutal automated ball-strike system challenge in the top of the frame, on a 3-0 pitch that was fully in the zone.

“[The catch] took some of my ire off him for a minute,” Boone deadpanned.

José Caballero (0-for-4, four strikeouts) started a second straight game at shortstop Saturday for only the second time since returning from the IL last month. That has meant back-to-back days with Anthony Volpe on the bench, though Boone indicated he still views shortstop as a day-to-day situation.

TORONTO — Just when it looked like Giancarlo Stanton was days away from a return, he has hit…

[5122
5229,10626,1266,405,403,2228,5226,5225,5228,5227,62,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
post-865700","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-america","tag-giancarlo-stanton","tag-mlb","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-new-york-yankees","tag-newyork","tag-newyorkcity","tag-ny","tag-nyc","tag-sports","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
