HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Fans from around the world have arrived in Houston for the World Cup, bringing excitement, national pride and a willingness to brave just about anything for a chance to be part of the tournament.<\/p>\n

That includes the weather.<\/p>\n

With storms possible ahead of Houston\u2019s first hosted World Cup match between Cura\u00e7ao and Germany, many fans at the FIFA Fan Festival said they aren\u2019t too worried about the forecast \u2014 and some admitted they haven\u2019t given much thought to a backup plan if severe weather moves in.<\/p>\n

\u2018No problem with the weather\u2019<\/b><\/p>\n

Luis, a fan visiting from El Salvador, has spent the last three days enjoying Houston and plans to keep coming back to the Fan Festival.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s awesome. Really awesome experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

When asked about the possibility of storms, Luis said he may simply find a place indoors to watch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I don\u2019t know, maybe watch the game in any bar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Others were even less concerned.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo problem with the weather. I only need to watch the game,\u201d said Mohamed, a fan who plans to return despite the forecast.<\/p>\n

Adam Thomas said weather won\u2019t affect his plans either.<\/p>\n

\u201cRain or shine, we\u2019re going to be here,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n

For Pedro de Sousa, who traveled from Cura\u00e7ao to support his team, the weather is just another part of the experience.<\/p>\n

De Sousa arrived in Houston this week and plans to stay through the end of the month. He said attending his country\u2019s match in person was non-negotiable.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course,\u201d he said when asked if he would be at the stadium. \u201cAll the way from Cura\u00e7ao.\u201d<\/p>\n

FIFA\u2019s severe weather plan<\/b><\/p>\n

While fans may not be worried about the forecast, tournament organizers are preparing for the possibility of severe weather.<\/p>\n

According to FIFA Fan Festival operations, Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department personnel are monitoring weather conditions at the event site. If lightning is detected within an eight-mile radius, fans will be required to exit the grounds and move to a safe location.<\/p>\n

The festival gates will reopen only after a 30-minute period passes without any additional lightning detected within that radius. The 30-minute countdown restarts with every new lightning strike.<\/p>\n

Organizers encourage visitors to follow @fwc26houston on social media for real-time operational updates and weather-related information.<\/p>\n

Experiencing Houston beyond the matches<\/b><\/p>\n

Beyond the matches, many visitors are also getting their first taste of Houston culture.<\/p>\n

For some, that means adjusting to the city\u2019s famous humidity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe humidity is here way up there,\u201d de Sousa said. \u201cIt\u2019s harder here than it is in Cura\u00e7ao.\u201d<\/p>\n

For others, it\u2019s all about the food.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhataburger!\u201d Luis said when asked about his favorite thing he\u2019s eaten in the United States so far.<\/p>\n

De Sousa said he\u2019s enjoyed tacos and other local favorites and hopes to try Texas barbecue before heading home.<\/p>\n

Rain or shine<\/b><\/p>\n

As fans continue arriving from across the globe, one thing appears clear: whether it\u2019s sunshine, humidity or thunderstorms, most are determined not to miss the World Cup experience in Houston.<\/p>\n

As Thomas put it: \u201cRain or shine, we\u2019re going to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n
