The viral YouTube hit \u201cOpen Door,\u201d a three-minute short by Kevin Cate, will be adpated into a feature-length film by Rick Kearney and Cate\u2019s Clinging Vine Films. The pair also recently adapted Cate\u2019s \u201cUnbearable Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOpen Door,\u201d which has amassed nearly 15 million views on social media so far, documents the elevator ride from hell that two people share.<\/p>\n

\u201cI literally can\u2019t go a day without someone asking me what our characters saw down there,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Cate said in a statement shared by Variety<\/a>. \u201cAnd I really, really can\u2019t wait to show everyone \u2014 and give some hints along the way \u2026 We are ride or die with our original cast and crew who made this all happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019ve written some of the most incredible roles to make this a next-level project,\u201d Cate added. \u201cRight now, it\u2019s just a matter of showing the demand and finding our village.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharing news of the feature adaptation himself on social media Friday, Cate said, \u201cOnly in my wildest dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

The short is also available for streaming on its official site<\/a>. The website notes the feature does not yet have a release date, but could be released as soon as 2027.<\/p>\n

The movie will come after the success of \u201cBackrooms\u201d and \u201cObsession,\u201d which were both hatched from popular YouTube videos. \u201cBackrooms\u201d director Kane Parsons has since become the youngest director to top the box office<\/a> and \u201cObsession\u201d has become the highest-grossing movie acquired out of a film festival<\/a>. <\/p>\n

If Cate\u2019s name sounds familiar, it might be because he previously worked as a Democratic consultant and campaign spokesperson<\/a> for then-candidate Barack Obama in 2008. His father is WFLA anchor Keith Cate.<\/p>\n
