The Lebanese Hezbollah militia has launched another drone attack on northern Israel, Israeli authorities said on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Israeli military said two impacts were recorded on Israeli territory near the border with Lebanon, but no injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
Warning sirens sounded earlier in several towns along Israel’s northern border. Israeli news outlet ynet reported that one drone struck near the border town of Shlomi.<\/p>\n
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the incident.<\/p>\n
Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said in a post on X that the attack was a test of the “Dahiya doctrine,” outlined by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n
Dahiyeh, or Dahiya, refers to the densely populated southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital Beirut, which are considered a stronghold of the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement.<\/p>\n
A week ago, Israel attacked the suburbs in response to Hezbollah rocket fire in the north of the country, triggering a wave of Iranian attacks on northern Israel.<\/p>\n
Israel subsequently vowed to strike Dahiyeh again if Hezbollah launches further attacks on northern Israel.<\/p>\n
In his X post on Sunday, Smotrich called on Netanyahu to implement his “Dahiya doctrine” and to destroy buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs “today.”<\/p>\n
“We are in decisive days that will shape the region for many years to come,” he wrote.<\/p>\n
“We promised security to the residents of the north, and we must fulfil that promise!”<\/p>\n
Iran, which has been negotiating a framework agreement with the United States to end the conflict, wants a deal to include a ceasefire in Lebanon.<\/p>\n
Israel, however, strictly opposes linking the two fronts. It wants to destroy Hezbollah and reach a peace settlement with the government in Beirut.
