PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Arizona\u2019s major newspaper will soon be printed out of state, leading to over 100 workers out of a job.<\/p>\n
Printing of The Arizona Republic (azcentral) will be relocated to Las Vegas, the organization announced<\/a> on Tuesday. The move led to the paper\u2019s parent company, Gannett, laying off 117 workers at its Deer Valley printing facility. <\/p>\n The layoffs were filed with the Arizona Job Connection<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Printing and packaging operations will be moved to Las Vegas in October. The organization says it will shift to a joint-publishing arrangement in order to cut costs. <\/p>\n \u201cWhere our newspaper is printed does not impact our ability to deliver outstanding journalism. The Arizona Republic will continue to provide readers with quality, local content that matters most to them, and to connect our valued advertising partners with the customers they want to reach,\u201d Lark-Marie Anto\u0301n, Gannett chief communications and brand officer, said in a statement.<\/p>\n The Republic\u2019s current printing facility<\/a> in the Deer Valley area of north Phoenix will be shut down, Gannett said. Final copies will roll off the Deer Valley printing press on Oct. 5. <\/p>\n Starting in October, the newspaper will be printed in Las Vegas before being transported to locations in Arizona, Gannett says. Because of this, deadlines for news copy and advertising will shift earlier. <\/p>\n \u201cWe deeply appreciate the years of service our knowledgeable, skilled staff has dedicated to our Phoenix facility and the local community,\u201d Anto\u0301n said. <\/p>\n Gannett says this change is not expected to affect delivery times for print customers.
