\n\tOliver Tree<\/a>, the California-born singer-songwriter known for tracks like \u201cLife Goes On,\u201d \u201cWhen I\u2019m Down\u201d and \u201cMiss You,\u201d died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, according to CNN Brazil<\/a>. He was 32.<\/p>\n

\n\tCNN Brazil reported that the crash, which happened Sunday morning in the Southwest of Rio de Janeiro, involved two helicopters and left six dead, including Tree. As recently as yesterday, Tree was posting content to social media from his time in Brazil. Tree\u2019s reps did not immediately respond to Variety\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tTree, synonymous with his bowl cut and vibrant \u201880s fashion, spent his early career producing dubstep and performing in the San Francisco Bay Area under the artist name \u201cTree.\u201d He debuted his first EP, \u201cDemons,\u201d in 2013 under R&S Records.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2016, Whethan released \u201cWhen I\u2019m Down,\u201d a poppy, early fall hit that put Tree on the map with his feature. A month later, he signed with Atlantic Records, through which he released the single \u201cWelcome to LA,\u201d his first under the name Olvier Tree. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe 2018 EP \u201cAlien Boy\u201d saw Tree\u2019s stock rise not only in the electronic music space but also in online culture. His double music video \u201cAll That x Alien Boy,\u201d which he wrote and directed, amassed over 50 million views and introduced his retro-oddball aesthetic to a general audience.<\/p>\n

\n\tTree built a significant following on social media, particularly on TikTok, where he had amassed 15.4 million followers. His biggest single on the platform, \u201cLife Goes On,\u201d took off in 2021 and has since been used in over 3.7 million videos, while \u201cMiss You,\u201d a dance-oriented track with pitched-up vocals, has been used 1.5 million times.<\/p>\n

\n\tTree was in the middle of his headlining world tour for his fourth studio album, \u201cLove You Madly, Hate You Badly,\u201d which was entirely self-produced.
