{"id":867438,"date":"2026-06-14T20:50:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T20:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/867438\/"},"modified":"2026-06-14T20:50:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T20:50:17","slug":"draft-analyst-gives-early-look-at-qb-tiers-for-2027-draft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/867438\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft Analyst Gives Early Look At QB Tiers For 2027 Draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even after drafting Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers could still be in the market for a quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a draft that looks\u00a0talent-rich at quarterback as things stand right now, and\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Athletic\u2019s Nick Baumgardner broke that talent down into<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7346893\/2026\/06\/11\/nfl-draft-2027-quarterbacks-manning-sorsby\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0tiers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a draft that has the potential for five or more quarterbacks to go in the first round, Baumgardner has six quarterbacks in tier one. Texas\u2019s Arch Manning, Oregon\u2019s Dante Moore, Oklahoma State\u2019s Drew Mestemaker, Notre Dame\u2019s CJ Carr, Ohio State\u2019s Julian Sayin and USC\u2019s Jayden Maiava all compose the top tier.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that just because a player is listed here doesn\u2019t make them a lock to declare. Moore, for example, surprised many with his decision to return to Oregon this year despite being the projected No. 2 pick in the draft for much of the pre-draft process.<\/p>\n<p>But with so many Tier 1 quarterbacks, the draft is looking to be talent-rich at the game\u2019s most important position.<\/p>\n<p>Baumgardner put Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby in Tier 2, a tier of his own. Sorsby was a projected first-round pick until an investigation into his gambling commenced.<\/p>\n<p>While Sorsby <a href=\"https:\/\/steelersdepot.com\/2026\/06\/report-steelers-wont-have-decision-to-make-as-judge-rules-brendan-sorsby-can-play-college-football-in-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">did get an injunction allowing<\/a> him to play this season following a two-game suspension, he\u2019s a player who could fall further than initially expected due to off-the-field red flags. He\u2019ll need to put together a really strong season on the field to stay in first-round consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Baumgardner\u2019s final tier, Tier 3, consisted of LSU\u2019s Sam Leavitt, Miami\u2019s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss\u2019 Trinidad Chambliss and South Carolina\u2019s LaNorris Sellers.<\/p>\n<p>Chambliss had legitimate first-round buzz if his case to return to Ole Miss failed, and the fact that he\u2019s in Tier 3 shows the strength of this quarterback class. Sellers and Leavitt also had first-round buzz prior to the 2025 season, but uneven performances led to both returning to school.<\/p>\n<p>It would be a surprise if the Steelers were drafting in the top half of the first round, which limits their opportunities to potentially grab a true game-changer at quarterback. Things are always subject to change, but right now, the talent level in this class still means the Steelers could draft a first-round quarterback, given that there are 11 players within the top three tiers and the third tier is full of players who have first-round talent.<\/p>\n<p>In an ideal world, Allar and\/or Will Howard develop enough to the point that the Steelers don\u2019t need to take another shot at a quarterback.
