HUNTER, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York forest rangers and a sheriff\u2019s deputy rescued a dog after a hiking mishap in Greene County south of Albany.<\/p>\n
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation says it happened on July 16 in Hunter.<\/p>\n
They say a dog fell into a crevice on the Escarpment Trail. Its owner called for help after a terrifying moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought I was never going to see him again. I felt like he was going hundreds of feet into an abyss,\u201d the dog\u2019s owner said. \u201cHe got there. Let\u2019s get this going. He did everything with his ropes and pullies and he got down there and got my dog… He should have a cape sewn on his uniform, I told him. He was so professional and fearless.\u201d<\/p>\n
Two rangers and an off-duty Greene County sheriff\u2019s deputy helped pull the 1.5-year-old Australian shepherd to safety.<\/p>\n
