Organisers: Kabir Sheikh and Meike Schleiff

Asia and Africa are projected to account for 90% of the increase in urban populations over the next 20 years, transforming the configuration of health systems and people’s health needs. Policies have not kept up with these dramatic shifts. We need to rethink the design of PHC systems, which were often originally developed and organized for predominantly rural settings. This session will identify pivotal areas of reform for Urban PHC in diverse Asian and African contexts, and help shape a learning agenda for more just, inclusive, and sustainable Urban PHC systems.

Moderator

Prof. Kabir Sheikh, UCL Global Business School for Health

Keynotes

Prof. Nora Colton, UCL Global Business School for Health

Dr Rajani Ved, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Dr Suraya Dalil, World Health Organization

Panellists

Dr Benjamin Tsofa, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme

Prof. Tolib Mirzoev, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Prof. Helen Schneider, University of the Western Cape

Dr Prashanth Srinivas, Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru

Prof. Sabina Rashid, James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University

Dr Meike Schleiff, UCL Global Business School for Health

Conversation 2: Urbanization and Primary Health Care Systems November 2024, Nagasaki (Global HSR Symposium satellite session), Hybrid.
