coast flooding is forecast : Big Island Now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Updated June 14, 11:50 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu issued a high surf advisory from 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, as a long-period south-southwest swell is expected to build in throughout the island chain tonight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surf of 8 to 12 feet is expected by late Saturday night and 10 to 14 feet by Sunday afternoon, June 14, through Monday night, June 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Costal Flooding is forecast for all coastal areas of Hawai\u02bbi Island through Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the High Surf Warning and Coastal Flooding:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Kahalu`u, La`aola (Magic Sands), and Kohanaiki Beach Parks are closed today.<\/li>\n<li>Other beach parks may close without notice.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware that beaches could experience wave run-up and wash-over, especially during high tide.<\/li>\n<li>Please heed all instructions given by Ocean Safety Officials.<\/li>\n<li>Remember, when in doubt, don\u2019t go out.<\/li>\n<li>Those along\u00a0south facing shores\u00a0should take necessary precautions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Impacts are expected to be moderate to high, with strong breaking waves and strong currents making swimming dangerous along the advisory shores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The combination of the incoming south-southwest swell and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bigislandnow.com\/2026\/06\/13\/costal-flooding-possible-during-high-tides-through-early-next-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">King Tides<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0during the next couple of days will also result in more widespread coastal shore impacts, particularly during the afternoon and evening peak daily tide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public is advised to heed all advice from ocean safety officials \u2014 when in doubt, don\u2019t go out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A long-period south-southwest swell will build tonight and peak Sunday night into Monday before gradually declining through the rest of the week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South and west shorelines will be impacted by the resulting surf, with south shores reaching advisory level heights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surf heights could also approach warning levels along south-facing shores and advisory levels for west-facing shores during the peak of this event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The combination of the swell, King Tides and the daily high tide will make low-lying coastal areas along south and west shores susceptible to more widespread coastal flooding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Updated June 14, 11:50 a.m. National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu issued a high surf advisory from 6&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":868556,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[23],"tags":[194617,79675,746,79678,353644,119475,6231,353645,159,353646,353647,67,132,68],"class_list":["post-868555","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-big-island","tag-coastal-flooding","tag-environment","tag-high-surf-advisory","tag-june-16","tag-king-tides","tag-national-weather-service","tag-ocean-safety","tag-science","tag-south-shores","tag-through-tuesday-morning","tag-united-states","tag-unitedstates","tag-us"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/116753360913576830","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/868555","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=868555"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/868555\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/868556"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=868555"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=868555"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=868555"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
