Juneteenth is a Black American holiday celebrated annually on June 19 to remember the day when word finally came in 1865 to enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, that slavery had ended due to President Abraham Lincoln\u2019s Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863.<\/p>\n
The newest federal holiday was signed into law on June 17, 2021<\/a>, establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day.<\/p>\n Government offices<\/strong> \u2014 Los Angeles city and county, national and state offices \u2014 and superior courts, libraries and schools \u2014 are normally closed for a federal holiday such as Juneteenth.<\/p>\n Here is a sampling of services that are closed or are on a regular schedule on Friday, June 19:<\/p>\n Banks:<\/strong> Closed.
