CHICAGO (WLS) — Charges have been dropped against two suspects in the death of Chicago firefighter Jermaine Pelt.<\/p>\n

The men were accused of starting the fire that killed Pelt in the West Pullman neighborhood in April 2023.<\/p>\n

They were about to go on trial when their cases were dismissed.<\/p>\n

Charges against a third man were dropped in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said the case is still open and their commitment to seeking justice for Pelt remains unwavering.<\/p>\n

The fire took place in the 12000-block of South Wallace Street.<\/p>\n

Pelt died from smoke inhalation while battling the blaze.<\/p>\n

At the time of in the fire in April 2023, responding firefighters say the smelled scented hand sanitizer at the scene.<\/p>\n

It was determined the fire was started on a second floor landing of the vacant building.<\/p>\n

Pelt left behind<\/a> two children.<\/p>\n
