It seems like just a few years ago (it was 1995!) that the Portland rock band Everclear<\/a> rose to success with its \u201cSparkle and Fade\u201d album.<\/p>\n

The single \u201cSanta Monica\u201d became a big hit, with its recognizable opening bars and Art Alexakis<\/a>\u2019 first lines: \u201cI am still living with your ghost \/ Lonely and dreaming of the West Coast.\u201d Hits such as \u201cI Will Buy You a New Life\u201d and \u201cFather of Mine\u201d followed two years later on the album \u201cSo Much for the Afterglow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now decades later (how has it been 30 years?!), Everclear is ready to celebrate the 30th anniversary of \u201cSparkle and Fade\u201d with a two-month-long tour. The 42-show slate begins in Alexakis\u2019 hometown of Los Angeles on Sept. 4 and will roll through Oregon for four shows that month, in Medford (Sept. 9), Bend (Sept. 11), Eugene (Sept. 12) and Portland (Sept. 13). The Portland stop is set for the Crystal Ballroom<\/a>, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show (tickets available here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The band will then criss-cross the country before wrapping up the \u201cSparkle and Fade 30th Anniversary Tour\u201d on Nov. 2 in Chicago. The bands Local H<\/a> and Sponge<\/a> also are touring with Everclear.<\/p>\n

This is not the Everclear of your Gen X youth, though. Alexakis remains, but bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Greg Eklund departed in the early 2000s. Now it is Davey French (guitar), Freddy Herrera (bass) and Brian Nolan (drums) who fill out the band.<\/p>\n

Still, 30 years after that rise to prominence, Everclear is still going strong, now with 11 studio albums and 12 Top 40 hits to its name. That\u2019s definitely more sparkle than fade.<\/p>\n
