Due to the threat of severe storms and flooding, Gov. Greg Abbott issued<\/a> a disaster declaration for 101 Texas counties, including Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Montgomery and other counties in the Houston area. This measure ensures that local communities can access a full range of state support and resources.<\/p>\n The counties affected by the order are mostly in Central, South and Southeast Texas, although the order is not limited to just those counties.<\/p>\n \u201cTexas is prepared to respond to the severe weather threats that continue to move across our state,\u201d Gov. Texans should heed the guidance of state and local officials and take all necessary precautions to stay safe during this severe weather.\u201d<\/p>\n As part of the state\u2019s response, Abbott directed<\/a> the Texas Division of Emergency Management earlier today to increase 24-hour operations at the Texas State Emergency Operations Center. This follows his previous instruction to agency last week to activate<\/a> resources in anticipation of flooding.<\/p>\n
