Longer days, warmer nights, and a packed calendar of festivals can only mean one thing: summer has arrived. Celebrate the season’s official kickoff at these summer solstice events happening in and around Philadelphia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

American Swedish Historical Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n

The American Swedish Historical Museum will host its annual Midsommarfest on June 20 to celebrate the arrival of the summer season. Marking the museum\u2019s 100th anniversary, this year\u2019s festivities will feature live music from the Last Chance duo, traditional maypole dancing, family-friendly games and activities, and plenty of opportunities to experience Swedish culture firsthand. Guests can browse a Swedish used book sale and Mormor\u2019s Attic Shop, sample Sm\u00f6rg\u00e5st\u00e5rta (Swedish sandwich cake), and try their hand at Kubb, a classic Swedish lawn game. Flower crowns and refreshments will also be available for purchase.<\/p>\n

Admission includes access to the museum and its centennial exhibitions, \u2018From Taste to Tech: 100 Years of Nordic Innovation\u2019 and \u2018Impact and A Century in the Making: 100 Years of ASHM.\u2019 Tickets are $12 for nonmembers, $8 for museum members, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children under 5.<\/p>\n

Fabric Row\u2019s 3rd Annual Summer Solstice Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 3rd Annual Summer Solstice Festival in the South Street Headhouse District will be in full swing this Saturday (June 20) Running from noon to 7 p.m. (along South 4th Street between Lombard and Catharine), the free event will transform the historic area into a celebration of local arts, culture, shopping, food, and music.<\/p>\n

While here, Fabric Row will showcase many of its popular retailers alongside local artists, makers, and community organizations. Visitors can also participate in hands-on art experiences and workshops, enjoy family-friendly activities (like a splash zone), and sample food and drinks from neighborhood spots. Live performances will also take place throughout the day, including a lineup on the Gaskill Street stage featuring Miss Olivia, DJ Smoove, and Tell All Your Friends.<\/p>\n

Andra Hem<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Scandinavian cocktail lounge Andra Hem will celebrate Midsummer on Sunday, June 21. From 5 to 9 p.m., guests can craft custom flower crowns while sipping specialty drinks, including the snap-pea-infused “Make it Snap-Pea” and the citrusy “Midnight Sun.” The event will also feature sweet and savory bites from Party Girl and a creative lineup of gelato flavors from Cocco’s Gelato, including Princess Cake with lingonberry jam, Cardamom Cinnamon Bun, and Burnt Honey with Teddy Grahams. Tickets are $50 and include a flower crown, one complimentary cocktail, snacks, and gelato.<\/p>\n

9th Annual Haddon Twp. Summer Solstice Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n

This free community event will take over Haddon Ave between Strawbridge Avenue and Cooper Street from 2 to 10 p.m. this Friday (June 19). Visitors can expect live music, food trucks, beer gardens, strolling entertainment, and family-friendly activities, with everything located just blocks from the Westmont PATCO Speedline. New this year, organizers are adding a World Cup Watch Party at Haddon Square as well, where fans can gather to watch Team USA on a giant outdoor screen beginning at 3 p.m. Vendors in the square will open at 2 p.m. A full schedule of events can be found online.<\/p>\n
