However, surely there’s some kind of niche usage for the new Optimus GX PRO line that justifies this sort of laughably high sum, right?

Over 2000 Dollars ?!
Fuck off, I got a 4TB for just 180 Euros like 2 years ago 😂 https://t.co/b3h1EYuF5L

— Michael (@Michael_Jambor) June 16, 2026

Well, if there is, I’m not seeing it, because as users on ResetEra have already pointed out, this “new” model feels insultingly similar to the WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD: a four-year-old SSD created by SanDisk’s parent company, Western Digital. They both share 6,600MB/s of sequential write performance, 4,800 endurance (TBW), 1200K input/output operations per second—wait a tic, even the weight and dimensions are exactly the same. Is this literally the same SSD?

Ok, but if there’s no easily discernible difference between the two SSDs, why the hell does the new Optimus GX PRO cost roughly $700 more than its WB_BLACK counterpart at full price? Who knows, but I’ll tell you something interesting: SanDisk was selling the same WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe SSD 8TB Heatsink model for $579.99 back in November 2024.

not that anyone asked, but

$2.959,99 converts to R$15.100,00

which means you can feed a family of 3 for 10 months up to a year with that money, fuck this

— ChaCharms (@mamatuspapatus) June 16, 2026

Here’s another fun fact: did you know SanDisk Corporation’s stock valuation has increased more than tenfold since October 2025? They’re clearly really struggling at the moment, so please pay $700 more for the same 8TB SSD so the poor investors can afford somewhere to sleep tonight.

Look, I get it; the never-ending need to feed AI datacenters with SSDs and RAM is making storage options more expensive. How is anyone gonna afford to build a modern gaming PC in 2027 without remortgaging their house? Oh, wait—nobody can afford to buy a house anymore. How is anyone gonna afford to build a modern gaming PC in 2027 without selling all their Pokémon cards?

I don’t know what else to tell you at this point. I would say I’m crashing out, but I’m actually using my PC to write this, so I’m gonna go in the other room and crash out once I’m finished writing this instead, because I can’t risk doing it near the most expensive thing I own. In 2035, we’re all gonna have to pool our money together to buy a new gaming PC so we can take turns playing Resident Evil 10. God, I hate this.
