\n– A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Bolivar Peninsula,
\nBrazoria Islands, Chambers, Coastal Brazoria, Coastal
\nGalveston, and Galveston Island<\/p>\n
* STORM INFORMATION:
\n– About 150 miles southwest of Galveston TX
\n– 28.0N 96.7W
\n– Storm Intensity 30 mph
\n– Movement Northeast or 45 degrees at 6 mph<\/p>\n
SITUATION OVERVIEW
\n——————<\/p>\n
Potential Tropical Cyclone 1 will continue to move near the Texas coast
\ntoday, before crossing into southwest Louisiana this evening.
\nPotential impacts to southeast Texas include the prospect of locally
\nheavy rainfall and flash flooding, 1-3 feet of coastal flooding across
\nthe coast and along the bays, and gusts to tropical storm force along
\nthe immediate coast. Impacts will persist through today before
\ndiminishing this evening as the system lifts to the northeast of the
\narea. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for all coastal areas
\nof SE Texas and the Gulf waters out 60 nm, with the exception of
\nMatagorda Bay.<\/p>\n
POTENTIAL IMPACTS
\n—————–<\/p>\n
* FLOODING RAIN:
\nPrepare for dangerous rainfall flooding having possible significant
\nimpacts across portions of southeast Texas. Potential impacts include:
\n– Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt several evacuations and
\nrescues.
\n– Rivers and tributaries may quickly become swollen with swifter
\ncurrents and overspill their banks in a few places, especially
\nin usually vulnerable spots. Small streams, creeks, canals, and
\nditches overflow.
\n– Flood waters can enter some structures or weaken foundations.
\nSeveral places may experience expanded areas of rapid
\ninundation at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage
\nareas. Some streets and parking lots take on moving water as
\nstorm drains and retention ponds overflow. Driving conditions
\nbecome hazardous. Some road and bridge closures.<\/p>\n
Prepare for locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible
\nlimited impacts across the northern Brazos Valley and Piney Woods
\nRegion.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere across Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.<\/p>\n
* SURGE:
\nCoastal flood warnings and advisories have been issued for the
\nimmediate coast. Please reference the Coastal Hazard Message for
\nmore information. Potential impacts in this area include:
\n– Numerous roads may be closed. Low lying property including homes,
\nbusinesses, and some critical infrastructure could be inundated.
\nSome shoreline erosion will occur.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere across Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.<\/p>\n
* WIND:
\nLittle to no significant impacts are anticipated at this time
\nacross Southeast Texas.<\/p>\n
* TORNADOES:
\nPrepare for a tornado event having possible limited impacts across
\ncoastal portions of southeast Texas. Potential impacts include:
\n– The occurrence of isolated tornadoes can hinder the execution
\nof emergency plans during tropical events.
\n– A few places may experience tornado damage, along with power
\nand communications disruptions.
\n– Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneys
\ntoppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned,
\nlarge tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow-rooted trees
\nknocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boats
\npulled from moorings.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere across Southeast Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.<\/p>\n
