{"id":875784,"date":"2026-06-18T11:56:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T11:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/875784\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T11:56:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T11:56:27","slug":"streets-in-chicago-suburbs-submerged-in-water-after-heavy-rainfall-nbc-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/875784\/","title":{"rendered":"Streets in Chicago suburbs submerged in water after heavy rainfall \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Suburban authorities warned residents that several streets were submerged in water after a torrential rainfall and to avoid traveling on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The entire Chicago area is under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/weather\/even-as-severe-threat-shifts-chicago-area-could-see-chance-of-flash-flooding\/3950117\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">flood watch through 9 p.m.,<\/a> according to the National Weather Service, with rainfall rates of 1-to-2 inches per hour possible.<\/p>\n<p>While a flood risk is present particularly in low-lying roadways and in parking lots, there is also a potential for flash flooding of creeks, streams and rivers, according to officials. The greatest threat for flash flooding is along and south of I-80, especially in the Kankakee River valley.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStreets were submerged in water after torrential rains across the Chicago area on Wednesday. Randy Gyllenhaal reports.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The Park Forest Police Department said viaducts along Orchard Drive near North Street and Lincoln Highway near Olympian Way were flooded around 4:40 p.m. in a post on social media. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please use alternate routes if you must travel. Several vehicles have become completely submerged, and flooded engines have left some roadways impassable due to disabled vehicles,&#8221; PFPD said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1D1N6Uy5tt\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the post.<\/a> &#8220;We ask everyone to use caution, avoid driving through flooded areas, and never attempt to bypass road closures.
