{"id":877112,"date":"2026-06-19T01:07:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T01:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/877112\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T01:07:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T01:07:28","slug":"this-is-the-final-nail-in-new-yorks-worthless-diploma-coffin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/877112\/","title":{"rendered":"This is the final nail in New York&#8217;s worthless-diploma coffin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again, the state <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/16\/opinion\/board-of-regents-mandates-climate-curricula-as-ny-kids-still-struggle-with-math-and-reading\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Board of Regents<\/a> is undermining education standards, this time by creating an \u201cpath\u201d to a high-school diploma that doesn\u2019t rely on schooling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s part of the drive to junk proficiency measures, such as the Regents exams that have been the core requirement for the last century, in favor of a falsely-named \u201ccompetency-based\u201d approach that relies on  projects, portfolios, and \u201cwork-based learning\u201d such as apprenticeships.<\/p>\n<p>Just two years ago, the State Education Department scrapped the requirement of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/11\/us-news\/ny-high-school-students-will-no-longer-need-to-pass-regents-exams-to-graduate-under-new-plan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">passing five Regents exams<\/a> to earn a high-school diploma;
