KPRC 2 News reporter Corley Peel first reported on Gamble’s case last month.

Gamble’s family said was admitted to a Houston hospital on November 19 for altered mental status. She left the hospital that day in the company of a man she had just met. Days later, she was dead inside his apartment.

According to the autopsy, Gamble likely suffered from diabetic ketoacidosis and other serious health conditions. However, investigators found blood on the man’s hands and clothing, blood in multiple locations throughout the apartment, an apparent odor of cleaning products and Gamble’s body in the early stages of decomposition when authorities arrived.

Despite those findings, doctors found no fatal injuries and could not rule out foul play. The medical examiner ruled both the cause and manner of death undetermined.

Gamble’s sister, Rebekah Falke, described her reaction to reading the autopsy.

“I was disturbed and just completely disgusted,” Falke said. “Lots of things that are in the autopsy that you don’t want to read about a loved one.”

Social media videos posted on the man’s Facebook page show Gamble alive on November 19 and 20. But according to the autopsy report, a video from November 25 appears to show Gamble on an air mattress, possibly already deceased. The man did not call 911 until November 27 and told police Gamble had not moved in three days.

Falke says a ball of her sister’s hair was found near a bible in the apartment. She alleges the man slept beside her sister’s body for hours before calling for help.

Houston Police initially closed the case without an arrest. After questions from the family, and calls from KPRC 2 News, investigators reopened the case. HPD confirmed to KPRC 2 News that it remains an active investigation.

Records show a troubling criminal history linked to the man. Court records show he was previously charged with murder in a 2013 case involving a woman whose body was found dumped in a ditch. Those murder charges were later dismissed, but he was convicted of interference with a human corpse and served seven years in prison.

Houston Police have not officially named the man as a suspect and he has not been charged in connection with Gamble’s death.

Falke says too much time has passed without answers.

“I just want some accountability. I want people to actually look into what happened to my sister. She by no means deserved to not have the dignity that she deserved in her last bit of life,” Falke said.

The investigation is ongoing.
