{"id":877705,"date":"2026-06-19T07:15:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T07:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/877705\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T07:15:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T07:15:16","slug":"asia-markets-fall-as-investors-assess-durability-of-u-s-iran-peace-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/877705\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia markets fall as investors assess durability of U.S.-Iran peace deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two men look at an electronic quotation board displaying the Nikkei 225 stock prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Tokyo on June 12, 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Andrew Caballero-Reynolds | AFP | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets fell on Friday as investors assessed the durability of a U.S.-brokered peace agreement with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Vice President JD Vance on Thursday defended President Donald Trump&#8217;s interim agreement with Iran, saying any economic relief for Tehran would depend on the country complying with the terms of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The United States isn&#8217;t giving up a cent of money to Iran,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;The only way the Iranians get any of these resources &#8230; is if they comply fully&#8221; with the terms of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, likewise described the agreement as conditional, saying on Thursday that he approved the memorandum only after receiving guarantees that Iran&#8217;s rights and the &#8220;resistance front&#8221; would be safeguarded.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> fell 0.6% after hitting a record high on Thursday, while the Topix lost 1.11%.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi dropped 1.58%, pulling back after crossing the 9,000 mark for the first time yesterday. Shares of Samsung Electronics reversed earlier gains and fell 3%, while SK Hynix rose 1%. The small-cap Kosdaq tumbled 4.95%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> was down 1.14%.<\/p>\n<p>U.S., China, Hong Kong and Taiwan markets are closed for a holiday.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stock futures were lower, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> losing 0.6% and 0.9%, respectively. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> were down 200 points, or 0.38%.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., stocks closed out the holiday-shortened week in positive territory. The three major indexes closed higher after the Federal Reserve indicated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/17\/fed-interest-rate-decision-june-2026.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">possibility of a rate hike<\/a> this year \u2014 a move that sparked a sell-off in equities during the previous session.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0added 1.08%, closing at 7,500.58, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0climbed 1.91% to 26,517.93.
