(WKYT) – Casey County residents are being told to conserve water as part of a shortage emergency, despite rainfall Thursday that left some parts of Kentucky with more than four inches.

Graphics show Casey County received less than an inch of rain Thursday.

The water shortage came about because of inadequate rainfall and more people pulling from the lake. People are being asked to conserve now to help alleviate bigger problems down the road.

“Conserve a little here, a little there. And we will get through this together,” said John Sparr, a Casey County resident.

Some people who live outside Casey County are pitching in to help. Lindsey Phillips is from Lincoln County and wants to help her neighbors in Casey County. She’s organizing numerous places for people to donate water and will deliver the water to Liberty and Casey County locations over the next few weeks.

“Going forward with a whole week of donations I am hoping that I can help multiple families at a time,” Phillips said.

Casey County’s emergency management director says they are not doing a large scale water distribution, but they are receiving shipments of bottled water and will pass it out when the time comes for that.

“Water is a basic necessity for life. We cook with it, clean with it, drink it to live,” Phillips said.

The first distribution that Phillips is organizing will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Central Kentucky Ag Expo Center.

If you would like to donate water to Phillips’ cause you can drop off donations at the Stanford Fire Department, Masonic Lodge in McKinney, First Southern National Bank in Somerset and at the Marion County EMS in Lebanon.

Copyright 2026 WKYT.
