Sundry Photography \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>Because they were seasoning the real beef, they consumed the same amount of sodium in both phases of the study \u2014 but here\u2019s the juicy twist.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly everyone dropped 1 to 3 pounds after switching to the plant-based stuff.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/gfieurope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Guide_-Where-does-plant-based-meat-fit-in-the-UPF-conversation_19-May.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new report<\/a> by PAN International and the Good Food Institute shows plant-based meats come out ahead on several nutritional fronts as well.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2020 clinical trial, participants lost weight when eating plant-based meat instead of real meat.  Siam \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re packed with just as much protein, way more dietary fiber (beef has none), significantly less saturated fat and slightly fewer calories.<\/p>\n<p>The trade-off? A bit more salt and sugar.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve also been tweaking their blends.<\/p>\n<p>Impossible Foods has slashed saturated fat in its burgers by reducing the amount of coconut oil \u2014 cutting it from 8 to 6 grams \u2014 and the lite version now boasts 75% less saturated fat than lean beef.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond Meat has ditched coconut oil entirely for avocado oil, trimming saturated fat to just 1\u20132 grams per product while keeping protein high at 20 grams.<\/p>\n<p>The company also lowered sodium by 20% and added a diverse blend of plant proteins \u2014 like lentils, peas, fava beans and brown rice \u2014 to make its offerings more nutritionally complete.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth remembering that while UPFs aren\u2019t ideal, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/20\/health\/red-and-processed-meats-linked-to-type-2-diabetes-risk-new-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">red meat intake has been linked<\/a> to an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Fake meat, real results.
