{"id":883342,"date":"2026-06-21T19:51:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-21T19:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/883342\/"},"modified":"2026-06-21T19:51:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T19:51:12","slug":"tennessee-baseball-staffer-leaving-for-assistant-coach-position-at-jacksonville-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/883342\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Baseball Staffer Leaving For Assistant Coach Position At Jacksonville State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Ethan-Payne-1.webp\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-197549\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"745\" height=\"483\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Ethan-Payne-1.webp\"\/><\/a>Photo By Kate Luffman\/Tennessee Athletics<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee baseball support staffer Ethan Payne is leaving the Volunteer program to accept an assistant coach position at Jacksonville State, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KendallRogers\/status\/2068060904420499743?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">D1Baseball\u2019s Kendall Rogers first reported<\/a> on Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Payne\u2019s official title at Tennessee was \u201ccamp coordinator\u201d but the Memphis native also helped with coaching duties during his two years on Tennessee\u2019s support staff. Before his time as a support staffer, Payne played at Tennessee from 2020-24.<\/p>\n<p>The utility infielder played in 67 games but started just four during his five-year career at Tennessee, hitting .273 with four doubles, one home run and eight RBIs. While Payne was never a starter at Tennessee, he earned playing time as a pinch hitter in bunting situations. He also had a fantastic stretch while playing first base, helping turn a game-saving double play in the Vols\u2019 NCAA Tournament win over Clemson in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Payne is joining Travis Creel\u2019s inaugural staff at Jacksonville State. Creel took over as head coach earlier this month after spending the previous seven seasons as the recruiting coordinator at Southern Miss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More From RTI:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockytopinsider.com\/2026\/06\/20\/former-tennessee-baseball-teammates-roommates-share-mlb-field-for-the-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Former Tennessee Baseball Teammates &amp; Roommates Share MLB Field For the First Time<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Creel replaces Steve Bieser who left Jacksonville State to become the Grand Canyon head coach earlier this offseason. Jacksonville State posted a 48-15 (23-7 CUSA) record this past season, making the NCAA Tournament and ironically losing in the Hattiesburg Regional.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s another familiar name joining Creel\u2019s staff as Kyle Serrano is taking over as pitching coach.
