(WAPT) Independent filmmakers, directors, and producers of the documentary “Caravan of Hope” held a screening at the Two Mississippi Museums to share a story about Mississippi’s history. The documentary explores the historic 1982 grassroots effort to save Mound Bayou, Mississippi, from bankruptcy. It highlights how Memphis-based, Black-programmed radio station W.D.I.A. raised funds to support the town. Castell Sweet, a producer and director of the film, said she hopes the documentary inspires viewers. “We wanted to have this screening here because the Civil Rights Museum in Mississippi really shows how everyday people came to transform this place, and so that is the same thing that happened in 1982, people came together to try and transform Mound Bayou, and that has been special to us. We wanted to show people who watch the film, we want them to walk away knowing that they too can make a difference in their community,” Sweet said. The filmmakers said they plan to travel to other cities to share the documentary with more audiences.

      JACKSON, Miss. —

JACKSON, Miss.
