Dan Goldman<\/a> the arguably overpriced $9.82 coffee he bought while campaigning with his family in the borough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey Congressman Dan Goldman, we see that you stopped by our shop today for a coffee. Do you see how it doesn\u2019t taste like genocide juice? Or are you still having a hard time telling the difference?\u201d The post appears to point to the Manhattan-Brooklyn Representative\u2019s stance that supports Israel in the Israel-Hamas war, started by terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023, that led to an invasion of Gaza that left thousands of people dead.<\/p>\n<p>The post continues with workers telling Goldman to keep out of the shop.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSee, here at Poetica, we don\u2019t serve racists, fascists, homophobes, genocide enablers, or anyone in between,\u201d the message reads. \u201cToo bad we didn\u2019t recognize you right away, or we would have turned you away. We issued you a refund\u2014we don\u2019t need your money (it\u2019s probably coming from AIPAC anyways). Enjoy your loss on Tuesday. Dan Goldman and refused his business over his pro-Israel stance.Photo via Google Maps\/Inset via LinkedIn<\/p>\n<p>The controversy erupted just a day before Goldman will square off against former city comptroller Brad Lander in a closely watched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/news\/nyc-primaries-key-congressional-races-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">primary on June 23<\/a>. Lander, who has aligned himself with progressive Democratic Socialists of America members, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is leading in polls right now.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear who at Poetica issued the digital refund for Goldman\u2019s now-free coffee, why the decision was made public, or whether customers\u2019 political views factor into how they are treated at the shop. amNewYork tried calling and messaging the shop for answers, but was unable to get through.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-137855473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-22-at-4.14.22-PM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"700\" title=\"'We don't need your money:' Brooklyn coffee shop serves U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman, then refuses his money over his support of Israel 3\"  \/>Poetica Coffee\/Facebook<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/22\/us-news\/nyc-coffee-shop-bans-pro-israel-politician-in-nasty-post-despite-promise-to-treat-all-customers-with-unconditional-dignity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York Post article<\/a>, staff at Poetica declined to comment for the newspaper\u2019s story, yet one staffer said, \u201cNo comment. We stand against genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Goldman told amNewYork the Congress member was campaigning with his kids when he bought a coffee at Poetica while his daughter used the bathroom, adding that the encounter went \u201cgreat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur campaign has had multiple canvass events at Poetica,\u201d he said about the shop, which has multiple locations around the city. \u201cThis has not been an issue in the past.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Goldman, meanwhile, responded directly to Poetica\u2019s post \u2014 perhaps in a way that was sweeter than sugar in coffee.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry to see this post. The barista could not have been nicer to my 7-year-old daughter and me, allowing her to use the bathroom even though we had not purchased anything,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI made sure to buy a coffee in return for her kindness. Dan Goldman and former city Comptroller Brad Lander appeared separately at a NY-10 candidate forum hosted by New York Law School and sponsored by Abundance New York and NYC New Liberals.Photo by Lloyd Mitchell\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, comments on the post overwhelmingly expressed support for Goldman, with some even calling for a boycott of the coffee house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, Poetica Coffee: Do you know that your coffee\u2019s poor rating and foul taste is exceeded only by your classlessness, antisemitism, unprofessionalism and ignorance?\u201d one commenter wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another person wrote, \u201cLooks like I\u2019ll avoid this place on my next NYC visit.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Someone else chimed in to say, \u201cYou might want to take this down,\u201d with laughing emojis.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>At press time, the post was still on Poetica\u2019s Facebook page.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>While both Goldman and Lander support Israel, Lander has taken a more critical stance toward the country\u2019s handling of the war in Gaza.
