{"id":886508,"date":"2026-06-23T05:41:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T05:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/886508\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T05:41:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T05:41:15","slug":"father-grieves-loss-of-pregnant-daughter-grandson-after-phoenix-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/886508\/","title":{"rendered":"Father grieves loss of pregnant daughter, grandson after Phoenix crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A father is grieving the loss of his daughter and soon-to-be grandson after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/06\/21\/pregnant-woman-newborn-baby-die-after-crash-north-phoenix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/06\/21\/pregnant-woman-newborn-baby-die-after-crash-north-phoenix\/\">deadly crash over the weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">David Potts said his daughter, 19-year-old Leila Potts, was preparing to deliver his first grandson before the crash happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI never get to see my daughter again. I\u2019ll never even get to meet my grandson,\u201d David Potts said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police said the driver of the car in which Leila Potts was a passenger ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle, killing Leila Potts, who was sitting in the passenger seat. Her father said the driver was her boyfriend and the father of her baby.<\/p>\n<p><b>The crash<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Saturday night around 11:30 p.m., David Potts said Leila\u2019s boyfriend picked her up from a shift at Home Depot in north Phoenix.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cStill smiling through all of it, even with her complaining about how bad her feet hurt,\u201d David Potts said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police say the person behind the wheel ran a red light and crashed into another car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Leila Potts was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors delivered her baby, Vincent. Neither of them survived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cVincent had a full head of hair, like he was a grown man. I really wish I could have held him,\u201d David Potts said.<\/p>\n<p><b>The driver<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police said the driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Phoenix police have not confirmed who was driving the car, but David Potts said it was his daughter\u2019s boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI mean, I still love him. I don\u2019t wish anything ill on him. I don\u2019t hate him,\u201d David Potts said. \u201cThe only reason it\u2019s going to take a while for me to talk to him is because every time I see him, I\u2019m going to see her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phoenix police do not believe impairment was a factor. No charges have been filed yet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phoenix police said any future charges are part of their ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">David Potts said he wants justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI know how much he\u2019s hurting. And I know it\u2019s not easy to lose your baby. Obviously, I know,\u201d David Potts said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Family members have set up a GoFundMe to help lay Leila Potts and Vincent to rest.
