{"id":887261,"date":"2026-06-23T13:33:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/887261\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T13:33:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T13:33:12","slug":"city-controller-report-finds-one-third-of-short-term-rentals-lack-required-licenses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/887261\/","title":{"rendered":"City controller report finds one-third of short-term rentals lack required licenses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 About one-third of short-term rental properties in Philadelphia are operating without the required license, according to a report from the Office of the City Controller.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia has exacting regulations for short-term rentals, including two different types of licenses, depending on whether the host lives in the home or not, along with a commercial activity license, a business tax account, proof of lead certification, and other inspection reports.<\/p>\n<p>But City Controller Christie Brady found that more than 1,000 units of about 4,000 listed on booking platforms lack the required license.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a public safety issue and a quality of life issue,\u201d Brady said. <\/p>\n<p>Brady said booking platforms require hosts to upload their licenses, but don\u2019t check them.
