{"id":887423,"date":"2026-06-23T15:18:33","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T15:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/887423\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T15:18:33","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T15:18:33","slug":"shaman-and-partner-withheld-magic-mushrooms-use-before-adelaide-fashion-icons-death-inquest-told","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/887423\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Shaman&#8217; and partner withheld magic mushrooms use before Adelaide fashion icon&#8217;s death, inquest told"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A &#8220;shaman&#8221; healer repeatedly assured a woman &#8220;everything was fine&#8221; in the hours before her cardiac arrest \u2014 then lied to paramedics about her use of magic mushrooms, a court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A coronial inquest is investigating the death of Adelaide fashion icon Carol Foord, who was given magic mushrooms as an alternative treatment prior to her death, aged 72, in June 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Opening the inquest on Tuesday, counsel assisting the coroner Greg Dudzinski told the court Ms Foord was hesitant to accept her motor neurone diagnosis and expressed a distrust of traditional medical treatments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She began looking into mushrooms containing psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, as a form of &#8220;non-conventional treatment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Through a friend, Ms Foord was connected to Noah McKenna, who was referred to as a &#8220;shaman&#8221; but had no medical qualifications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The court heard Mr McKenna told Ms Foord taking psilocybin would be &#8220;a beautiful experience&#8221; that would involve music and would help navigate her fears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He attended her home for a &#8220;healing session&#8221; on June 15, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Prosecutor Greg Dudzinski walks out of them Adelaide District Court\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/972712fbb4bf51da34d8024a6d80db96.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Counsel assisting the coroner Greg Dudzinski opens the inquest on Tuesday. (ABC News: Ethan Rix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Dudzinski told the court Ms Foord spoke with two friends by phone during the afternoon as her condition deteriorated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">She told them she was &#8220;having a bad trip&#8221; and at one point said &#8220;I want to die&#8221; \u2014 but Mr McKenna repeatedly interjected with assurances that she would be fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This was a constant theme throughout Ms Foord&#8217;s decline that day,&#8221; Mr Dudzinski told the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Mr McKenna, who was not a medical professional, reassuring Ms Foord and those around her that everything was fine, when he was not qualified to make any sort of medical assessment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The court heard Ms Foord&#8217;s partner, Con Ninos, checked on Ms Foord three times throughout the session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Just before 3pm, he said he found Mr McKenna in &#8220;dire straits&#8221;, while Ms Foord was &#8220;lifeless, white and not responding&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Dudzinski told the court Mr McKenna asked Mr Ninos to call an ambulance and paramedics arrived four minutes later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They found Ms Foord had suffered a cardiac arrest, was not breathing and had no pulse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Dudzinski said a paramedic at the scene asked Mr McKenna if Ms Foord had consumed anything, and he responded &#8220;no&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;His response was obviously a lie,&#8221; Mr Dudzinski said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;A lie at a time when an actual medical professional was seeking information for the purpose of providing life-saving treatment.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Barbara Komazec holds her hand on the shoulder of her sister, Carol Foord, while the pair stand in front of a mirror and flowers\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/859bbbcd4ef7e6d39947b82a73e17f38.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Fashion entrepreneur Carol Foord (right) with her sister Barbara Komazec. (Supplied: Barbara Komazec)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Foord was revived at the scene and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but was taken off life support that night &#8220;due to a very poor prognosis, as a consequence of the cardiac arrest&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The court heard that while Ms Foord was at the hospital, Mr McKenna told Mr Ninos over the phone that he had given her magic mushrooms \u2014 information that was &#8220;eventually&#8221; provided to medical staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The inquest, before Deputy State Coroner Emma Roper, will examine the delay in relaying information, but Mr Dudzinski said evidence would show that it &#8220;ultimately did not have a causal impact on Ms Foord&#8217;s death&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It will also examine Ms Foord&#8217;s use of MDA, which was found in her blood after her death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There&#8217;s currently no evidence on the brief that Ms Foord used MDMA or that there was any agreement that MDMA or MDA would be part of the healing session,&#8221; Mr Dudzinski said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The court heard Mr McKenna was currently in Sweden and had declined to give evidence at the inquest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It also heard that, following Ms Foord&#8217;s death, Mr McKenna was charged with supplying or administering a controlled drug to another person, but the charge was dropped in April 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Partner &#8216;na\u00efve&#8217; about treatment<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ms Foord&#8217;s partner, Con Ninos, gave evidence in the inquest on Tuesday and said that he withheld information from paramedics and medical staff at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s something I deeply regret,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I was in a state of shock.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t come clean [at the house] \u2026 to the paramedics \u2026 whether that could&#8217;ve saved Carol&#8217;s life, I&#8217;ll never know.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ninos told the court he did not tell medical professionals about the magic mushrooms after Mr McKenna told him not to.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man in a suit is holding a black zip-up folder.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/165dc3d922f730fa5ba2d618ad82486d.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Con Ninos leaves court after giving evidence in the inquest into her death. (ABC News: Aiden McNamara)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He told the court that Mr McKenna said &#8220;you can&#8217;t say anything about mushrooms&#8221;, before the call to Triple Zero (000) was made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ninos can be heard in the Triple Zero call \u2014 which was played to the court \u2014 saying that Ms Foord was &#8220;unconscious&#8221; and that Mr McKenna was doing CPR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;My partner&#8217;s not in a good state, she&#8217;s had some treatment today,&#8221; he can be heard to say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The operator can be heard asking what the treatment was, to which Mr Ninos replies: &#8220;She&#8217;s just been a little bit tired.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;She fell over in the room, and she sort of passed out \u2026 she&#8217;s having a bit of trouble with her walking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">When asked who was conducting CPR, Mr Ninos said: &#8220;A friend of mine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ninos said he had only known Mr McKenna for a few weeks but that he &#8220;trusted him&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I thought he was engaged to do something that I believed was going to help Carol,&#8221; he told the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Ninos said that he believed Ms Foord was partaking in the treatment &#8220;to heal her mind, heal her anxiety \u2026 with a medicine \u2026 magic mushrooms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I&#8217;m na\u00efve to what the treatment was going to cause or do,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A blonde woman speaks to reporters holding microphones outside a stone building\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/acd029effae937b50bcb572f4420a62c.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Barbara Komazec is warning others about the dangers of alternative treatments.
