BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Over the weekend on a massive Bethlehem estate, car care was taken to the extreme.<\/p>\n
“I wish I had a bucket of water and a rag and just kind of wash it,” said Ed Welburn, former head of Global Design for GM, as he looked at a Ford GT.<\/p>\n
Snakes on the Mountain is an annual private invitation only car show. Nearly 200 classics, race and rare automobiles from across the country rolled in.<\/p>\n
Two roared louder than the rest.<\/p>\n
“All Ferrari’s are for driving. I drive all my cars, people think I’m nuts,” said Len Rusiewicz.<\/p>\n
Len Rusiewicz has owned dozens of Ferraris, including a 1958 model valued at $5 million that he drove to the event.<\/p>\n
He, along with the rest, are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Ford vs. Ferrari.<\/p>\n
“This is the car from the Ford versus Ferrari, the movie,” Snakes on the Mountain Boad Member Bill Caron explained.<\/p>\n
A 2019 movie highlighted the historic 1966 Le Mans endurance race, when Ford’s GT40mk beat the Italian automaker.<\/p>\n
“It was the race of the century,” said Rusiewicz.<\/p>\n
Marking the first time an American manufacturer won the prestigious title.<\/p>\n
“When you see a Ford GT, what does this represent to you?” asked 69 News reporter Bo Koltnow.<\/p>\n
“This is Americana,” responded Sean Serafina in front of a Ford GT.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old drove in from Detroit.<\/p>\n
“Who cares if Ford beat Ferrari 60 years ago? Why does it matter now?” Bo asked him.<\/p>\n
“I think of Ford versus Ferrari, that was engineered here in America by average people. That’s why I love the cars, seeing what people create over time, and how things evolve, and they solve problems. It’s just representative what this country is all about to me,” he said.<\/p>\n
