\u201cFerris Bueller\u2019s Day Off\u201d star Mia Sara is opening up about her unsavory experience filming the teen comedy 40 years after the movie ignited the 1980s pop culture scene.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an interview\u00a0with The Sunday Times<\/a>, Sara, who starred as Ferris Bueller\u2019s girlfriend, Sloane Peterson, revealed that despite the 1986 film\u2019s popularity, she didn\u2019t have the best time making the beloved flick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really give interviews because making \u2018Ferris Bueller\u2019 was not that good an experience for me,\u201d she told the outlet on Saturday. \u201cBut I\u2019m very aware of what a precious thing this movie is, and I don\u2019t want to disappoint people. But I didn\u2019t get along well with [director] John [Hughes].\u201d<\/p>\n

Claiming to the Times that \u201cJohn was a strange guy,\u201d she detailed why she thinks the director, who died in 2009 at the age of 59, was \u201cfrustrated\u201d with her when they worked together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wanted us all to hang out together and to introduce us to the French New Wave films. But the others were seasoned actors, and I was a snotty New York kid and had seen all those movies, so he was frustrated in that desire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sara went on to admit that she believes she didn\u2019t have the \u201cemotional maturity to deal with other people\u2019s egos, or my own\u201d at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sara, now 59, was cast in the film at 17, while her co-stars Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey and Alan Ruck were casted at 23, 25 and 29, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, Sara told the outlet that while there are some things in her acting career that she\u2019s \u201creally proud\u201d of, she ultimately feels it was \u201cnot a happy career for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sara\u2019s remarks about her experience on set came after she revealed\u00a0to People<\/a> last year that she hadn\u2019t seen the film in years and that doesn\u2019t stay connected to her former cast members aside from the virtual reunion they all had in 2020. <\/p>\n
