The Cocoa, Fla. couple often visited the YMCA after Titus was diagnosed with Alzheimer&#8217;s, a progressive, irreversible brain disorder that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out simple daily tasks, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alz.org\/alzheimers-dementia\/what-is-alzheimers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Alzheimer&#039;s Association;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Alzheimer&#039;&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Alzheimer&#8217;s Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Phillips cared for Titus by keeping him engaged in the world around him up until his death in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI dressed him in beautiful dinner jackets so people would come up to him and compliment him \u2014 to keep him socialized,\u201d Phillips recalled to Florida Today. \u201cWe went out every day the last five years he was alive and had a great time.
