But on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (^SOX<\/a>) had its second-worst day of the past year, while Micron had its worst day since the depths of the Liberation Day sell-off in April 2025.<\/p>\n Then Micron answered.<\/p>\n The company posted record revenue, record gross margin, and record earnings for Q3, then said it has signed 16 strategic customer agreements designed to lock in supply over several years. For a business known for boom-and-bust swings, that is the bigger story. AI customers are not just buying more memory \u2014 they are trying to secure access to it.<\/p>\n The quarter itself was a blowout. Micron topped Wall Street’s estimates<\/a> and offered a stronger-than-expected outlook.<\/p>\n Revenue hit $41.5 billion, well above expectations. Adjusted earnings came in at $25.11 per share. Gross margin reached 84.9%, topping estimates and more than doubling from a year ago.<\/p>\n That last number is the key.<\/p>\n Gross margin shows how much of each sales dollar Micron keeps after making its chips. Micron is now keeping more of each sales dollar than at any point in data going back to 1990.<\/p>\n The company expects that figure to rise again this quarter, to about 86%.<\/p>\n That does not look like a memory market cracking. It looks like one still stretched by AI demand.<\/p>\n AI chips need memory that’s nearby, fast, and supplied in huge quantities. Micron said AI system performance depends on memory performance and capacity, turning memory into a strategic asset rather than a commodity afterthought.<\/p>\n That is where the customer agreements matter.<\/p>\n Micron said the 16 deals include take-or-pay commitments \u2014 meaning customers commit to buying set volumes or paying anyway \u2014 and typically run for several years.
