From\u00a0Talladega Nights to\u00a0Blades of Glory\u00a0and Semi-Pro, Ferrell has starred in box office hits and cult classics alike from the sports world.<\/p>\n<p>Now, he\u2019s taking on the sport of golf.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrell will star in an upcoming Netflix comedy series,\u00a0The Hawk,\u00a0about aging golfer Lonnie \u201cThe Hawk\u201d Hawkins.\u00a0The series has <a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/netflix\/will-ferrell-starring-golf-new-netflix-comedy-series.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">been in the works for multiple years<\/a>. It will <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/06\/will-ferrell-netflix-golf-the-hawk-release-date-teaser-trailer-1236749345\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">debut on July 16,<\/a> as Netflix recently released a trailer. The show centers around Hawkins\u2019 attempt to win the career grand slam while also trying to battle his son (Jimmy Tatro), who is trying to surpass his on-course legacy. Ferrell\u2019s former Saturday Night Live\u00a0cohort Molly Shannon plays his ex-wife, who is still in the mix, leading to exactly the kind of hijinks you would expect.<\/p>\n<p>To help promote the show, Ferrell <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GolfChannel\/status\/2069848741624869016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">joined Golf Channel live<\/a> from Connecticut at the site of this week\u2019s Travelers Championship in an interview with host Anna Jackson. He loves chili dogs, he can\u2019t read, and his game was apparently the inspiration for Scottie Scheffler. He is also a big fan of thongs.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe this version of Will Ferrell comedy still does it for you in 2026\u2026 and maybe it doesn\u2019t. But as popular as nostalgia efforts can be, it\u2019s at least worth giving a character who seems to be a cross between Ricky Bobby and Happy Gilmore a chance, right? Happy Gilmore 2 was a <a href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/netflix\/happy-gilmore-2-secures-most-watched-opening-weekend-ever.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">huge success for Netflix<\/a>, so if\u00a0The Hawk\u00a0can capture some of that momentum, then maybe it will all be worth it.
