PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Phoenix police released new video showing the tense moments leading to an officer-involved shooting that killed a man wanted by police in north Phoenix earlier this month.<\/a><\/p>\n

The shooting happened near 23rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road on June 11.<\/p>\n

Police said they were following 56-year-old James U. Glenn, who was wanted in connection with sex crimes against a child.<\/p>\n

After Glenn passed 23rd Avenue while heading west on Pinnacle Peak Road, an officer with the K-9 unit used a grappler to stop his SUV. Another officer used his unmarked truck to pin Glenn\u2019s driver\u2019s side door closed, police said.<\/p>\n

Glenn was still sitting when he raised a gun and pointed it at officers, investigators said, just before 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

In an edited body-camera video from the officer in the unmarked truck, the officer got out of his vehicle and immediately fired his gun at least six times. There was no audio at the beginning because the video was still buffering.<\/p>\n

After the shooting, another officer used an unmarked SUV to box the suspect in from the front.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had it in his hand,\u201d the officer who fired his gun said. \u201cAs soon as the grapple hit, he was reaching over the passenger side.\u201d<\/p>\n

In body-camera video from the K-9 handler, the dog could be heard barking as the officer got out of his vehicle. He then ran toward the suspect\u2019s SUV with his shotgun and got behind the first officer. He fired his gun once.<\/p>\n

\u201cShots fired, shots fired,\u201d he radioed. \u201cSuspect\u2019s down, has a gun. Not moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two other officers pointed their guns, and the video ended.<\/p>\n

Police also deployed a drone, which showed the gun Glenn had in the car.<\/p>\n

An officer then fired a less-lethal 37 mm foam rubber bullet to make sure it was safe to approach Glenn. He died at the scene.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The officers involved are assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension Investigative Detail and the K-9 Unit. They have 23 and 18 years of service with the Phoenix Police Department.<\/p>\n

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is still investigating. The case will also be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office, and an internal investigation by the Phoenix Police Department is underway.<\/p>\n
