Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District discusses how crews are working to prevent mosquitoes before they hatch.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\"><strong>(FOX 9)<\/strong> &#8211; Mosquitoes carrying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/tag\/health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">West Nile virus<\/a> have been found in three Minnesota counties, prompting health officials to urge residents to take extra precautions.<\/p>\n<p>   Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KMSP\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">According to the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD), mosquitoes collected at one location in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/tag\/u-s\/mn\/hennepin-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hennepin County<\/a>, two in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/tag\/us\/mn\/ramsey-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ramsey County<\/a> and one in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/tag\/us\/mn\/dakota-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> Dakota County<\/a> tested positive for West Nile virus in samples collected on June 17.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">The samples collected represent the first positive results for the virus in 2026, which remains on schedule for the the virus typically appears in Minnesota, according to the MMCD.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KMSP\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">Dig deeper:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">MMCD officials say 2025 saw more than 120 human cases statewide, including 50 in the Twin Cities, making it a record year for the virus manifesting throughout the state.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Culex tarsalis mosquitoes are the main carriers of West Nile virus to humans, MMCD says.<\/p>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/x3pm8altzy7s70ds.jpg\" alt=\"Minnesota mosquito forecast: Control efforts underway\" class=\"sr-only\" data-v-892ef6a8=\"\"\/>  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/x3pm8altzy7s70ds.jpg\" alt=\"Minnesota mosquito forecast: Control efforts underway\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\"vod-poster-image\" data-v-6546b402=\"\"\/>  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/video\/fmc-lcdpqcut5fe30ecq\" data-v-892ef6a8=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota mosquito forecast: Control efforts underway<\/a> <\/p>\n<p data-v-892ef6a8=\"\">It\u2019s that time of year when mosquitoes are starting to make a comeback.
