(WCAX) &#8211; For the second year in a row, testing has confirmed a human case of the mosquito-borne illness <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthvermont.gov\/disease-control\/mosquito-borne-diseases\/jamestown-canyon-virus\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.healthvermont.gov\/disease-control\/mosquito-borne-diseases\/jamestown-canyon-virus\">Jamestown Canyon virus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Health officials have confirmed to WCAX that a person in Charlotte contracted the virus. Full details on the infection were not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2025\/09\/09\/vermonts-1st-human-case-jamestown-canyon-virus-found\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2025\/09\/09\/vermonts-1st-human-case-jamestown-canyon-virus-found\/\">The first human detection of the disease in Vermont was in Windsor County last September.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Last year was the first time the state tested mosquitoes for the virus. It was found in mosquitoes in the Rutland, Marshfield, and Whitingham areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Most people don\u2019t become ill from Jamestown Canyon virus, but some develop flu-like symptoms or become very sick. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, and headache.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There is no vaccine or specific treatment for Jamestown Canyon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthvermont.gov\/disease-control\/mosquito-borne-diseases\/prevent-mosquito-bites\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.healthvermont.gov\/disease-control\/mosquito-borne-diseases\/prevent-mosquito-bites\">To cut your risk of mosquito bites<\/a>, officials recommend wearing long sleeves and pants outdoors, limiting time outside at dusk and dawn, and using insect repellent.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 WCAX.
