{"id":893670,"date":"2026-06-26T07:51:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/893670\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T07:51:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:51:18","slug":"harvey-weinsteins-new-york-rape-charge-dropped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/893670\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s New York rape charge dropped"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein will not face a fourth New York trial over the alleged rape of actress Jessica Mann.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutors dropped the case on Thursday after his accuser said she could not bear to testify again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In May, Weinstein&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2026\/04\/14\/rape-retrial-of-disgraced-hollywood-producer-harvey-weinstein-begins-in-new-york-court\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:third trial over the allegation;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;third trial over the allegation&quot;}\" class=\"link \"><strong>third trial over the allegation<\/strong><\/a> ended in a mistrial after the jury said it was deadlocked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The jury had been unable to reach a unanimous decision over whether Weinstein had raped Mann in 2013 in a New York hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mann appeared to support Thursday&#8217;s decision, saying in a letter that prosecutor Nicole Blumberg read to the court: &#8220;After a lot of thought and reflection, I have chosen not to proceed with a fourth trial against Harvey Weinstein. It was clear to me at this last trial I could no longer endure going through this any longer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mann added that the 8-year-old case has \u201cput me through more harm than good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Blumberg told the court that prosecutors believe Mann and hail her \u201cbravery, strength, courage and inspiration\u201d to other survivors, but given her feelings about proceeding, \u201cdismissal is appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Weinstein had pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape in the third degree, and has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He left court with a neutral expression, returning to jail to await a September sentencing on a New York sexual assault conviction involving a different woman. Prosecutors are seeking a 20-year prison term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Once Weinstein finishes the punishment he gets in New York, he is due to serve 16 years in California, where he was convicted of raping a third woman.
