\n\tFCC<\/a> Chairman Brendan Carr<\/a> said Thursday he was \u201cpleased\u201d with commitments from Skydance Media to reform CBS<\/a>, as the agency nears a decision on the $8 billion Paramount merger.<\/p>\n

\n\tSkydance submitted a letter<\/a> this week pledging to hire an ombudsman to address complaints of media bias and to present \u201ca diversity of viewpoints\u201d on CBS<\/a> news programming.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey are committing to serious changes at CBS,\u201d Carr said. \u201cI think that would be a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCarr, speaking at his monthly FCC press conference, did not give an update on the timing of approval of the Paramount-Skydance merger. Skydance has also committed<\/a> to eliminating various initiatives on diversity, equity and inclusion \u2014 though Paramount previously rolled back many of its DEI programs<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n

\n\tCarr said both the anti-DEI pledge and Skydance\u2019s promise to hire a CBS ombudsman are \u201csignificant commitments\u201d that will be considered as part of the merger approval process.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think it\u2019s a good thing,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re hitting on issues that I think we need to see significant change on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, Carr has repeatedly weighed in this week on CBS\u2019s cancellation of \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe partisan left\u2019s ritualist wailing and gnashing of teeth over Colbert is quite revealing,\u201d he said on X. \u201cThey\u2019re acting like they\u2019re losing a loyal DNC spokesperson that was entitled to an exemption from the laws of economics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also echoed the White House criticisms of ABC\u2019s \u201cThe View.\u201d On Wednesday\u2019s episode, co-host Joy Behar slammed<\/a> Trump for being \u201cjealous of Obama.\u201d The White House fired back, calling Behar an \u201cirrelevant loser\u201d and suggesting that \u201cThe View\u201d would be \u201cthe next to be pulled off air.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a Fox News interview on Thursday, Carr was asked if \u201cThe View\u201d is \u201cin the crosshairs of this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s entirely possible that there\u2019s issues over there,\u201d Carr said. \u201cOnce President Trump has exposed these media gatekeepers and smashed this facade, there\u2019s a lot of consequences. I think the consequences of that aren\u2019t quite finished.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCarr was asked at the FCC press conference to clarify whether he was referring to governmental \u201cconsequences\u201d or merely a decline in ratings.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do think you see significant lower ratings,\u201d he said, noting that \u201cThe Late Show\u201d was reportedly losing upwards of $40 million a year. \u201cI do think there\u2019s a lot of consequences once you sort of expose, as President Trump has, what\u2019s going on with a lot of these institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
