The Town of Clay is looking for feedback about potential law changes related to the ongoing Micron project.<\/p>\n
Town board members are planning to meet next week to schedule public hearings about potential law changes. If approved, the town would allow community host agreements (CHAs) to be issued in lieu of building permits for projects totaling more than $100 million.<\/p>\n
One of those public hearings would also revolve around creating such an agreement with Micron.<\/p>\n
Town leaders say that CHA would result in Micron making a $20 million project payment to the town and a $10 million commitment to the Green Chips Community Investment Fund.<\/p>\n
“It’s a win for them because their fee is less, but it’s a win for the town because the taxpayer would benefit directly from the payment,” said Town of Clay Deputy Supervisor Joseph Bick.<\/p>\n
The town says a CHA would save Micron about $32 million.<\/p>\n
It would also be subject to public hearings and approval by the town board.
