They are reviving Andrew Lloyd Weber\u2019s Tony award-winning musical \u201cEvita.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the story of Argentina\u2019s Eva Per\u00f3n, who was raised in poverty but eventually found herself the first lady of Argentina.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Playhouse\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanpedroplayhouse.org\/teams\/sami-serrano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sami Serrano<\/a>\u00a0plays Eva.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvita (is) basically about the life of Eva Per\u00f3n. She was the wife of<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Juan_Per%C3%B3n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Juan Per\u00f3n, who was the president of Argentina,\u201d Serrano said. \u201cThe show of \u2018Evita\u2019 talks about her life all the way from her humble beginnings when she was a kid through her unfortunate death at an early age of 33.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known for songs like \u201cDon\u2019t Cry for Me, Argentina,\u201d the musical is difficult\u2014and rewarding\u2014for the actors and musicians at the playhouse, according to Serrano.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe\u2019s definitely an interesting character to play. I think what makes it so difficult is that everyone has their preconceived notions on how they think Eva Per\u00f3n was as a person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serrano said that back in in Peron\u2019s time, it was a very different world for women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the 1950s they considered that the only way that a woman could be successful in that kind of position of power was she had to have slept her way to the top,\u201d Serrano said. \u201cOtherwise, she should be doing laundry at home.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serrano said that the songs are both wonderful to hear and difficult to pull off. Her favorite scene is also a very taxing one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked if she had a favorite scene, it\u2019s this one: \u201cDefinitely being on the balcony for<strong>\u00a0\u2018<\/strong>Don\u2019t Cry for me, Argentina.\u2019 The way that our set is, it\u2019s an incredibly beautiful big balcony that we have on our stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evita\u00a0starts on Friday and runs for the next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpr.org\/arts-culture\/2026-06-22\/san-pedro-playhouse-brings-evita-to-the-stage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">story<\/a>\u00a0first appeared at Texas Public Radio.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"San Pedro Playhouse\u00a0is about to open an ambitious production on Friday.
