RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Northern Nevada HOPES<\/a> is expanding access to mental health care with a new walk-in behavioral health clinic aimed at connecting more people to services, including those who may not know where to start.<\/p>\n

Staff members say the clinic is designed to help bridge gaps in care in a region that offers a variety of mental health resources, but where navigating options can still be difficult for patients and families. <\/p>\n

\u201cEffectively, our community has a lot of resources. Unfortunately, sometimes those resources aren\u2019t available. And so, I think that\u2019s why we opted into doing an access clinic, where people are able to walk in, where we\u2019re hoping to reduce those barriers to those resources,\u201d says Alvaro Maldonado, the behavioral health integration coordinator at Northern Nevada HOPES<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He encourages anyone interested in learning about available programs \u2014 or those with a friend or family member who could benefit \u2014 to visit during operating hours to ask questions and get connected. <\/p>\n

The location is at 580 W 5th St, Reno, NV 89503<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the biggest part is mental health can\u2019t always be seen, right? If I have a medical concern, there\u2019s objective things that we can look at,\u201d says Maldonado. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf I were to break a bone, you see it. With mental health, it\u2019s a little bit more nuanced sometimes. And so, because of that, it\u2019s a little bit more difficult to understand sometimes or even identify,\u201d says Maldonado. <\/p>\n

Services are available for people with or without health insurance, staff members said.<\/p>\n

Northern Nevada HOPES offers a range of behavioral health services, including brief psychotherapy, outpatient psychotherapy, intensive outpatient programs for more complex needs \u2014 including substance use and gambling addiction \u2014 group therapy, medication-assisted treatment for substance use recovery, and psychiatry services for medication management and clinical support.<\/p>\n
