Swifties around the world are counting down the days until Taylor Swift<\/a> and Travis Kelce<\/a> say \u201cI do,\u201d hoping the Grammy-winning singer will finally get her happy ending. However, many members of the public are looking forward to the wedding for a very different reason\u2014they want the looming disruptions to daily city life to end.<\/p>\n

According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, Swift\u2019s wedding is facing new major backlash due to possibly street closures around the venue, Madison Square Garden. The pop star and Kansas City Chiefs player are rumored to be getting married at New York City\u2019s iconic arena over the 4th of July weekend.<\/p>\n

On June 24, Page Six<\/a> reported that City Hall confirmed that a permit application had been filed with the city\u2019s Street Activity Permit Office for July 2 to July 4. The application, submitted by Winick Productions, requests street closures around MSG, along with plans for a public tent set up outside the arena to accommodate between 500 and 999 guests.<\/p>\n

If roads around MSG are closed for the multi-day event, it could cause quite the uproar. \u201cNew Yorkers already spend enough time sitting in traffic,\u201d a source told Shuter\u2019s Naughty But Nice<\/a>. \u201cThe reaction is, \u2018Isn\u2019t Madison Square Garden big enough? Now you need the streets too?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added, \u201cPeople are trying to get home from work, catch trains, or leave the city for the July Fourth weekend. Nobody wants to hear that their commute could be disrupted because two very rich people are throwing a wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift and Kelce\u2019s wedding is also drawing unflattering comparisons to Jeff Bezos<\/a> and Lauren S\u00e1nchez Bezos\u2019 three-day wedding extravaganza in Venice in June 2025, with critics seeing another example of billionaire-scale excess playing out in yet another historic city.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter Venice, you\u2019d think celebrities would understand that people don\u2019t like feeling their city has been turned into a private party,\u201d a separate insider said. \u201cThat\u2019s exactly what this risks looking like.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even longtime fans of the \u201cLove Story\u201d singer are now reportedly questioning her judgment and exactly what is driving these decisions. \u201cTaylor\u2019s gift has always been knowing how ordinary people think,\u201d a Swiftie remarked. \u201cThis feels different. The mood is, \u2018Why should my day be harder because of a pop star and a football player?\u2018\u201c<\/p>\n

As for whether the security decisions\u2014including permits to shut down streets\u2014actually came from the famous couple, almost no one seems to care. As one source explained, \u201cPeople don\u2019t care who filed the permits. They see street closures, traffic delays, and a celebrity wedding. To them, it feels rude\u2014and that\u2019s becoming the story.\u201d<\/p>\n
