The Federal Aviation Administration is investing in upgrades at the airport, while the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is running a trial at DFW Airport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>American Airlines adds routes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth-based American Airlines launched international and domestic routes in May and June.<\/p>\n<p>On June 4, American Airlines launched services at Lincoln Airport in Lincoln, Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>The airline offers nonstop flights twice daily from DFW Airport to Nebraska\u2019s capital city. American Airlines <a href=\"https:\/\/news.aa.com\/news\/news-details\/2025\/American-Airlines-sets-the-stage-for-summer-with-15-new-routes-NET-RTS-12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">announced<\/a> the route late last year, according to previous reporting.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines sent its inaugural flight from <a href=\"https:\/\/flyroa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport<\/a> in Roanoke, Virginia, to DFW Airport on June 5.<\/p>\n<p>The Fort Worth-based airline will fly from DFW to Roanoke once a day, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/grapevine-colleyville-southlake\/transportation\/2025\/12\/18\/american-airlines-announces-new-routes-to-nebraska-virginia-from-dfw-airport-in-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">previous reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines started service to Athens, Greece, and Zurich, Switzerland, on May 21.<\/p>\n<p>Both routes are nonstop and part of 70 daily flights from the United States to the airline\u2019s European network. The flights will be on Boeing 777-300ER or Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.aa.com\/news\/news-details\/2026\/Your-European-summer-is-calling-American-Airlines-unlocks-more-access-for-travelers-NET-RTS-05\/default.aspx?utm_source=sfmc&amp;utm_term=Button+Alias+-+Be+an+Ambassador+-+ambassador+page&amp;utm_content=123770&amp;utm_id=982a3471-04cf-41df-8f0e-d38a6e533383&amp;sfmc_activityid=cf2c76c5-0c97-41cf-9ee6-88fa8ca7a075&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=MC_06%2016%202026_MyDFWConnection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew service to Athens and Zurich is a great example of how American continues to invest in its largest hub with even more opportunities to connect to destinations around the world,\u201d Jim Moses, American\u2019s senior vice president of DFW Operations, said in a news release. \u201cWe\u2019re also investing in the travel journey with our new 13-bank schedule that sets up our team for success and delivers for our customers\u2014not just at DFW but across our entire airline due to the outsized impact DFW has on our global operation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contour Airlines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A small airport in northeast Missouri will launch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/contour-airlines-announces-new-nonstop-service-between-kirksville-missouri-and-dallas-fort-worth-texas-302801776.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">flights<\/a> to and from DFW Airport on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.contourairlines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Contour Airlines<\/a>, based in Smyrna, Tennessee, will offer flights six days a week\u2014except Saturday\u2014from Kirksville Regional Airport to DFW Airport. Flights from DFW to Kirksville will leave at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at 11:25 a.m. Flights from Kirksville to Dallas will be from 5:10 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on a 30-seat regional jet, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Adding Dallas-Fort Worth service is an exciting milestone for Contour and for the Kirksville community,&#8221; Contour Airlines President Sam Munson said in a news release. &#8220;This new route significantly expands travel opportunities for residents and businesses throughout the region by connecting Kirksville to one of the largest and most connected airports in the world. Combined with our continued daily Chicago O&#8217;Hare service, travelers now have even greater flexibility and access to destinations nationwide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Federal Aviation Administration investments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">U.S. Department of Transportation<\/a> will provide $78 million in grants for two projects at DFW Airport.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the FAA will invest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/trumps-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-invests-523-million-modernize-airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>$532 million<\/strong><\/a> to modernize infrastructure and improve safety. Airports in 43 states were awarded money from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/iija\/airport-infrastructure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Airport Infrastructure Grants<\/a> program. DFW Airport will receive $70 million, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The money awarded is the most to any airport. Only three airports received more than $20 million in grants.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Duffy\u2019s office announced DFW Airport will receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/briefing-room\/trumps-transportation-secretary-sean-p-duffy-invests-nearly-1-billion-making-airports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>$8 million<\/strong><\/a> to modernize 37 terminal restrooms in the existing five terminals to make them more accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The funding for this is part of the\u202fInfrastructure Investment and Jobs Act\u2013Airport Terminal Program. According to a news release, Duffy asked airport staff to present projects to the FAA that support family-friendly resources at airports, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DFW Airport is one of six airports in the U.S. using new camera capture technology.<\/p>\n<p>According to a social media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jayson-ahern-147299238\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">post<\/a> by Jayson Ahern, area port director of Dallas\/Fort Worth for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the goal of the new technology is to streamline the arrival process, making the journey through DFW Airport quicker while maintaining security.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing trial is through Global Entry. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.help.cbp.gov\/s\/article\/Article-1899?language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website<\/a>, Global Entry Touchless Portals is the biometric facial comparison technology used for travelers and border patrol officers to reduce physical touchpoints and expedite member processing. The portals eliminate the need for paper receipts and utilize mobile officer technology to provide a secure, streamlined and touchless experience, according to its website.<\/p>\n<p>Five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/travel\/biometrics\/environments\/airports?state=Texas&amp;port_of_entry=All\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">airports<\/a> in Texas offer biometric facial comparison technology for entry and exit: DFW Airport, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, San Antonio International Airport, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William B.
