{"id":895077,"date":"2026-06-26T22:19:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T22:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/895077\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T22:19:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T22:19:15","slug":"elgin-police-release-details-on-what-led-to-heavy-response-nbc-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/895077\/","title":{"rendered":"Elgin police release details on what led to heavy response \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elgin police released new details on what led to a large police presence as first responders descended on the city&#8217;s downtown, sparking<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/elgin-residents-urged-to-avoid-downtown-area-due-to-large-police-presence\/3954065\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> an hours-long investigation <\/a>that spanned into the Fox River. <\/p>\n<p>According to authorities, officers were called just before 11 a.m. to Highland and State Streets for reports of a man who had &#8220;interfered with railroad operations.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Officers had contact with the male subject, whereupon he then fled on foot and ran into the Fox River. While he was fleeing from officers, they observed a large knife on the subject,&#8221; police said in a release. <\/p>\n<p>The Elgin Fire Department deployed water rescue equipment to get the person back on land, but while they were attempting the rescue, the person went underwater. <\/p>\n<p>An alarm was activated for additional help as crews worked to locate the person. As of 3:30 p.m., no additional updates on the search were given. <\/p>\n<p>The police department had asked residents to avoid the downtown during the investigation. <\/p>\n<p>Witnesses reported emergency crews searching the Fox River in the area.
