Pool\/Staff Photographer<\/p>\n<p>COLLEGE STATION \u2014 The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/high-school-sports\/football\/article\/texas-7-on-7-class-of-2028-players-to-watch-22317034.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Texas state 7-on-7 tournament<\/a> is the ultimate off-season litmus test for high schools across the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/high-school-sports\/football\/article\/2026-texas-high-school-7-on-7-tournament-preview-22317022.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top prospects<\/a> from the Dallas area who\u2019ve already received dozens of Division I scholarship offers put their best foot forward in preparation for the fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/high-school-sports\/football\/2025\/09\/09\/dallas-area-top-recruits-class-of-2028-texas-high-school-football\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coppell\u2019s Carter Zingelmann<\/a>, the No.1 Texas quarterback in the class of 2028 according to 247sports, led the Cowboys to a 10-2 record and a regional semifinal berth in his sophomore season. The 6-5, 225-pound quarterback accounted for 2,603 total\u00a0yards and 30 total touchdowns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>During Friday\u2019s 7-on-7 pool play, Zingelmann called the tournament a chemistry-building opportunity for his team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of these schools run their defenses, and most of them run their offense,\u201d he\u00a0said. \u201cWe built off a little bit of anger from last year\u2019s playoff run. I feel like our team is very locked in, and we\u2019re definitely making little improvements every week.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The four-star quarterback has already received 25 offers in the opening stages of his recruitment. Zingelmann plans to lean on his family and coaches to help guide him through what could be a hectic junior year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really am open completely, no matter how big or no how small the school,\u201d he\u00a0said. \u201cI definitely just want to look at college with good relationships. The shifty 6-2 linebacker harped on the importance of improving tangible skills in the tournament, such as drop-backs and his positional versatility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Samuel has 17 offers from Power Four programs, including five of the seven major conference schools in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m big in my faith, so that\u2019s how I stay grounded,\u201d Samuel said. \u201cI give all my success to him. So that\u2019s how I stay grounded and keep a level head.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>North Forney\u2019s premier wide receiver in the class of 2027, Briceson Thrower Jr., understands the foundational value 7-on-7 provides. The 6-3\u00a0wideout, who committed to Texas on June 6,\u00a0was frustrated with himself and his teammates after they lost their first game of the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI gotta make sure the guys is on point, not just on the field, but off it,\u201d Thrower said. \u201cLike, make sure they recover, eat right, and things like that, make sure they\u2019re good.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thrower caught 32 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns his junior year. After receiving dozens of offers, the four-star athlete decided to stay close to home and play for the Longhorns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The stressful recruitment process was a weight on Thrower\u2019s shoulders, and he\u2019s glad to focus solely on winning football games for North Forney.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mind [was] going, going, and going, and going,\u201d Thrower said. \u201c\u2018Is this the right place for me? Is it a place I can call home?
