(WKYT) &#8211; Liberty is nearly two weeks into mandatory water restrictions as the city faces a water shortage emergency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The mayor said plans have been finalized and approved for a new pipeline that could help address the shortage.<\/p>\n<p>Pipeline construction<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Construction of an 8,000-foot pipeline from the Green River to Lake Liberty could begin as early as next week, Mayor Sam Haddad said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAs fast as we can. As soon as we can, too. Supposedly pump 300,000 gallons a day,\u201d Haddad said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The water is intended to help replenish Lake Liberty, which has been dropping to critically low levels because of drought, increased demand over the years and other issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHave to have it. We will do whatever it takes. Make sure, get it done. Lord willing, we will be alright,\u201d Haddad said.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses adapt<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Some businesses have found ways to remain open without using city water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Safari Falls Car Wash has a 5,000-gallon tank and hauls water in from other counties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI have grown up in Liberty all my life and the ironic thing is we have had waist high water probably up to here, on our business 3 times in the last 10 years. So now we are dealing with a drought which, usually we are worried about keeping water out,\u201d said Dakota Hoskins of Safari Falls Car Wash.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link | text-reset d-block h-100 w-100\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/page\/wkyt-apps-for-ios-and-android-devices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"WKYT Streaming Apps\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1782524177_360_MEPHTWNVMREWLEQQWWFJM27ZMA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Haddad said the city wants to help businesses stay alfoat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe don\u2019t want to shut down any businesses. We want to keep life going. Keep things moving. Do well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bottled water distribution<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Some organizations are also working to provide bottled water. The VFW post in Casey County will begin handing out water at 8 a.m. Monday, June 29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The mayor said conservation will still be required as long as the water shortage emergency is in effect.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WKYT.
