{"id":895600,"date":"2026-06-27T03:42:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T03:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/895600\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T03:42:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T03:42:26","slug":"nyc-pride-weekend-begins-amid-march-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/895600\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Pride weekend begins amid march controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a fresh coat of paint, the city\u2019s most recognizable symbol of Pride is getting ready for Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s Department of Transportation crews and elected leaders brightened the rainbow crosswalk outside Stonewall Friday ahead of the Pride March, where as many as 2 million people are expected.<\/p>\n<p><b>What You Need To Know<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Before the first marcher steps off, there&#8217;s already debate over who should be in the parade<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>A coalition that includes 19 current and former Pride grand marshals urged Heritage of Pride to remove Mount Sinai and NYU Langone from marching<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>NYU Langone has withdrawn. Mount Sinai remains scheduled to march<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cRight now in our country, there are places where they\u2019re ripping up their crosswalks. We\u2019re all here to say absolutely not. Not New York,\u201d Council Member Carl Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p>But before the first marcher steps off, there\u2019s already debate over who should be in the parade.<\/p>\n<p>A coalition that includes 19 current and former Pride grand marshals urged Heritage of Pride to remove Mount Sinai and NYU Langone over their decisions to end or restrict gender transition care for minors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese hospitals that have chosen to preemptively and proactively to end gender-affirming care for trans youth in New York City should not be allowed to march,\u201d Elisa Crespo, the 2025 Pride grand marshal, said.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, NYC Pride confirms NYU Langone has withdrawn from the march.<\/p>\n<p>In its place, a group of healthcare workers for trans rights will participate.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Sinai remains scheduled to march.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have never been a huge fan of kicking people out of the march, but I do stand with the community, and I think we need to have [a] serious reckoning with the way they\u2019re handling this,\u201d state Sen.
