\u00a0LOS ANGELES (CNS) \u2014 Angelus, the news outlet of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, announced Wednesday that it won 19 awards at the Catholic Media Association\u2019s annual conference, including top honors for its coverage of the January 2025 wildfires.<\/p>\n
The awards were announced during the conference in Atlantic City, NJ. The competition included Catholic publications from across the United States and Canada and recognized work produced in 2025.<\/p>\n
The publication\u2019s wildfire coverage earned first place in the Best Coverage \u2014 Disaster or Crises category. A photograph by Jack McGeagh showing a statue of the Virgin Mary standing amid the rubble of his family\u2019s home destroyed in the Palisades Fire also received first-place honors.<\/p>\n
Angelus Editor-in-Chief Pablo Kay was named Editor of the Year.<\/p>\n
The publication also received recognition for its coverage of the Catholic Church\u2019s response to federal immigration sweeps in Southern California and for reporting on the 2025 Jubilee Year.<\/p>\n
Other first-place honors went to Amy Welborn for a review of the Apple TV series \u201cPluribus\u2019\u2019 and to the wildfire coverage team of Angelus staff members, Ann Rodgers and Mike Cisneros.<\/p>\n
Angelus also received second- and third-place awards in multiple categories, including magazine, column, essay, review and news coverage competitions.<\/p>\n
